Pure Focus… Renewing of your mind – Part One

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of GOD is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.” — Romans 12:1 NASB

But all through life I see a Cross

where sons of GOD yield up their breath

there is no gain except by loss

there is no life except by death

and no full vision but by Faith

nor glory but by bearing shame

nor justice but by taking blame

and that eternal passions says,

Be empty of glory and right and name”

Amy Carmichael

What are you thinking about right now?

Why are you reading this?

Yesterday I went to the pool and started swimming. At first, my focus was way off. My mind kept wandering to those oh-so-well-known thoughts like “what do they think of me”? After a …

BIG change…

Change isn’t always easy.

And the news I’m about to share is hard as many tears have already been shed as we’ve told friends and students. BUT – change is also good and fun. This news is hard but it’s also wonderful and amazing news. Exciting news. Even a little overwhelming…

We’re moving away.

After being in the Springs almost ten years – it’s weird to think of moving away from this place we’ve called home for so long. We’ve got amazing friends and a support system here, awesome students, and a church family that we love. But God is moving us to an incredible little town in NE Colorado as Jeremy takes on a new Pastorate. Our family is thrilled and excited for this ministry and to jump in and serve and be involved. We are so looking forward to being a part of the small community. I love …

Pure Study… Living Each Moment to the Fullest

Be diligent to present yourselves approved to GOD as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the Word of Truth. –2 Timothy 2:15 NASB

As a PK  and PG on both sides of my family, I’ve grown up with the Bible. Being homeschooled, even more of my time was devoted to studying GOD’s Word. When I was fourteen I started doing Precept Upon Precept studies, and when I was fifteen I had training to be a P.U.P. leader.

Yet, I had a hard time studying for myself.

I grew up on Elisabeth George, Charles Ryrie, and Kay Arthur. Yet I was still having problems sitting myself down and studying the Bible by my own initiative. Not that I didn’t want to do my other studies; but I did have this overall sense of “get the homework done,  or you won’t understand the discussion.” Even then, having …

Pure Speech… One Word Can Change A Life

Do you ever feel like… you’re done making mistakes? Not that you won’t ever make a mistake again; (ha. ha. ha.) but that moment where you fall flat on you face and say, “Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time to hide under the covers!”

Yeah. Pretty much been this last year in a nutshell.

I’ve made so many mistakes, it’s almost unbelievable. When I was young, it was easy “to be a Christian”. It was easy to believe. But this past year or so… man! It’s like the scum in me has overgrow the cleanliness, and wants to take over.

Now, the fact is: I’m growing up. And it ain’t easy! As a young woman in today’s age, I’ve always striven to live a life devoted to GOD. Following HIM. Following HIS word… As a child, that was so easy. It was easy to trust HIM; easy to be respectful; easy …

Where Have You Been?

I get asked this question a lot. Especially lately. And I’m wondering if anyone else might be in the same boat. Do you feel like you’re treading water? That life is too busy or just passing you by?

I want to completely transparent here – hopefully, you know that’s what I’ve always aimed for, but sometimes it’s just stinking hard. The past few years have been weird and hard to say the least. We got away from blogging because we just needed to. Then the desire and the urge would come back and — me especially — I would think, “it’s time to get it rolling again.” Then life happened and I instinctively pulled back. Either because it hurt too much, there wasn’t enough time, or my focus was in a different place. And that’s okay. But when I received a lot of private messages and emails (and “a lot” …

ALL THINGS HIDDEN – Contest and Giveaway!

I’m SO excited!!!

Not only did I have the opportunity to write a book with one of the most amazing ladies on the planet, but it’s now AVAILABLE in both print, and digital forms! Woohoo!

Displaying TraciePeterson444 (1).jpg

Tracie Peterson and I had a blast writing ALL THINGS HIDDEN. It takes place in 1935 Alaska during the time when FDR sent 203 families to the Mat-Su Valley to “settle” a colony. These were families from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, who had hit horrific times during the Great Depression and a time of devastating drought. But they were in for a wild ride. Alaska isn’t an easy place to carve out an existence in just a few short months before winter sets in!

The historical facts and people that we laced through the story have already enamored many readers, and we are hoping it will do the same for all of you. It’s got a …

Sourdough recipes and fun for the release of All Things Hidden

*Keep Checking back and Tracie and Kim will keep adding to this fun link*

I’m going to start with my “Fast” Sourdough Bread recipe and then move into my family’s favorite :)

FAST SOURDOUGH BREAD:

1 cup sourdough starter

2 1/2 tsp yeast

1 1/2 cups warm water

1/2 tsp. salt

6 cups organic bread flour

2 Tb. sugar

1/2 tsp. baking soda

1 egg white mixed with 2 Tb. water

Proof your yeast in the 1 & 1/2 cups of warm water (not too hot or you will kill your yeast) – then pour your sourdough starter into a large mixing bowl, add the yeast/water mixture, add 4 cups of flour, sugar and salt. Mix well. Place in a buttered bowl and turn to coat all sides of the dough ball. Let rise in a slightly warm …
